Comic Book Consideration: Godzilla Cataclysm #2

Hello and welcome to another issue of Comic Book Consideration. This week we turn to publisher IDW and their mini series Godzilla Cataclysm.

Godzilla King of the Monsters to some, villain to others and Savior to a few. He has had an interesting existence since 1954. In 2014 he had a Hollywood reboot that helped to bring him back into the public mindset for his 60th Birthday. As such this Comic is part of this Birthday. Set in a world that dying with it Vegetation disappearing and set in a post apocalyptic  Tokyo that is pretty much rubble. What has led to this is unknown but safe to say that the dying planet has not helped things.
With the background now out of the way it is time to turn to the plot of this issue. With the Earth dying Tokyo is now home to a small population just living as their is not much left to Eat. Some people are out looking for supplies when they upon Godzilla and Biollante fighting. Godzilla starts to gain the upper hand when Mothra appears and ties to help out. However, Godzilla fires up his Atomic Breath attack and hits Biollonte and hits one of Mothra wings. The two scourts Aratha and Sjior survive and make it back to their tiny village in ruined Tokyo. We learn that Biollante has been destroyed in the fighting as the two talk to Arata grandfather. During sleep Shior digs into his bad and finds a rose which is a piece of Biollante and the Comics ends with a to be continued.
Moving to the Artwork of the issue it is quite good. The Kaiju are well drawn and look like their are supposed too.

At times people don't always look great but at times when they are sleeping and having nightmares/dreams the faces are well drawn and have the pained look to them. The destroyed Tokyo also looks great and shown like things have been going to hell for awhile.
With the examination of the plot and artwork done let us turn to the Plus and Minuses of the issue. Does it lead the issue to greatness or mediocrity.
Plus
- The Kaiju look great in the issue. Their is some great care taken to make this happen
- Godzilla's Atomic Breath Attack looks pretty great in this issue as well
- Wondering what happened to Earth to led to the setting of the issue/series is something fun to think of as well

Minus
- Suffers from being issue  of a mini series.

In conclusion,  Godzilla Cataclysm #2 shows a world entering ruin where Kaiju are coming back. Tokyo is a shell of its former self. The issue has great looking Kaiju that makes you wanting to have more. In the end I would give this issue a consideration for those that love Godzilla and Kaiku stories in General.

Final Score

B+
